The MAU was formed in 2004 with the mission to provide quality baseball umpiring services to youth, high school and summer baseball programs available to the Association through an objective and nonpartisan assigning process.

In 2019, the MAU merged with two other area associations to bring all area umpires together under one umbrella.

The MAU is governed by an elected Executive Board consisting of 9 voting members who serve 3-year terms, a non-voting Senior Executive Director and a non-voting Executive Director.
